Six Questions: Matt Martin

Margaret Sagan reached out to Matt Martin, Business Coordinator for the Art Theory and Practice department, to ask six questions. Read on to learn more about Matt.

A picture of Matt Martin standing on the sidewalk with his two year old. How long have you been at the university and what’s your current role?

I’m just finishing up my 9th year and am currently the Business Coordinator for the Art Theory and Practice department.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

Hard to say, as I love so many things about my job, but I would have to say the wonderful people I work with, both faculty, staff and students.

What’s your secret talent?

I am an artist myself, and although I normally create sculptures, paintings, and large installations, I have been spending more time writing and currently lead a writing group for artists that meets monthly.

What do you like to do in your free time?

My free time no longer exists as I have a 2 ½ year old and a new house!

What is your perfect idea of a relaxing day?

Depending on my mood, I would say either a nice quiet hike, or a good book and a drink.

For people looking to try out something new (food, TV shows, places, etc.), what would you recommend?

I just went to Pour, which is in Evanston on Dempster. It’s a cafe and bar with a wonderful staff. You can also have sushi delivered in from Sushi Ranch down the street! I would also recommend, if interested in art, to check out a north side gallery called Roman Susan (right by the Loyola red line stop). Always great exhibitions, and the owners are two of my favorite people!
