Did you know you can roast your own coffee beans at home using a popcorn maker? Josh Ippel shared his coffee obsession with Weinberg staff at the September 7th Farm to Fable. We sipped delicious coffee from Burundi to Malawi while Josh spoke about his journey from coffee novice to home roaster. The coffee we drank was roast by Josh, using beans sourced by Sweet Maria’s from cooperatives. We used our sense of smell and hearing to understand when the beans reached the first crack stage, when water escapes the beans and the beans begins to deepen in flavor, reaching the City Roast stage. Josh usually roasts his beans to the Full City + stage, at the beginning of the second crack. Sweet pastries were served to accompany the coffee.
