On March 13, Weinberg staff gathered in Ryan 4003 for the second session of WSAB Show and Tell. This session focused on all things graphic design. Who knew we had so many expert graphic designers among us?
After grabbing empanadas from Savory Crust, the audience settled in for a series of presentations followed by a Q&A / open discussion. Angela Crimmin (WCAS Marketing and Communications) kicked us off with an introduction. We then heard from our panelists, including Bianca Jimenez (International and Area Studies), Franny McNamara (Neurobiology), Laura Nevins (Physics and Astronomy), Jill Mannor (Kaplan Humanities Institute), Leon Hedstrom (French & Italian, Slavic, and German), Phil Hoskins (Philosophy), and Leslie-Anne Mock (Global Marketing and Communications).
The presentations varied; some presenters focused on technical tips whereas others touched on broader topics of inspiration and composition. Bianca focused on Canva and also talked about her experience working with Global Marketing. Franny and Laura focused on the intricacies of Adobe Illustrator, and how that program can be used to create flyers. Jill Manor shared a very useful handout that provided easy to enact tips for making better flyers and generally improving your graphic design. Phil Hoskins and Leon Hedstrom garnered laughs from their humor filled presentations full of dry reflections on adding texture and receiveing faculty feedback. Leslie Mock finished up the day with very important information on best practices and digital accessibility.
WSAB looks forward to hosting similar future events and we hope to see you next time! The opportunity to share with our colleagues has proven to be very valuable – I know we are learning a lot!
Great and really helpful program, thank you for offering.
