Farm to Fable: Palestinian Tea Service and Breakfast Mezze with Feda Jarad

Feda Jarad shared her story with Farm to Fable attendees on Thursday, August 17. It was a family affair in Silverman Hall Room 1531; we were greeted by Feda’s nephew and introduced to three of Feda’s sisters. The aromas of fresh mint, propagated from plants born in Palestine, and homemade za’atar filled the room. As we enjoyed the delicious breakfast mezze spread and tea service, Feda told us about her history and her family, taking us on a trip from Palestine to Brazil, to Puerto Rico and to Chicago.

We enjoyed the treats from Pita Inn, as well as the traditionally served tea that is common with a Palestinian breakfast.

Feda’s sister Amira visited Palestine and brought back the images in the presentation as well as fresh mint from their land.

Feda shows a side by side picture of the Jarad family home in Palestine. We were able to see how the home looked today and how it looked when it was occupied.
