A quick overview: Who we are, what we do, how we do it
WSAB as a Staff Board
The Weinberg Staff Advisory Board (WSAB) is one of several staff boards at Northwestern University, with a specific focus on the needs and interests of staff within Weinberg College. Our mission is to build a strong and inclusive staff community, promote professional development, advocate for staff interests, and contribute to strategic planning efforts that enhance the staff experience within the college.
How We Differ from NUSAC
You may already be familiar with NUSAC—the Northwestern University Staff Advisory Council. While NUSAC operates at the university level, advising the President, Provost, and Central HR on staff-related matters, WSAB works at the college level. We collaborate closely with Weinberg HR and college leadership to address issues and opportunities that are unique to Weinberg staff.
Our Mission in Action
Our work is grounded in the goal of fostering a positive and enriching work environment for all Weinberg staff. We do this by organizing community-building initiatives, offering professional development opportunities, advocating for staff needs, and supporting recognition efforts such as the Weinberg Staff Awards.
WSAB and the Staff Awards
One of our most meaningful contributions each year is our involvement in the Weinberg Staff Awards. In partnership with Weinberg HR, WSAB develops the award criteria and evaluation rubrics. We review and score nominations for three awards: the Dean’s Excellence Award, the Community Excellence Award, and the Meteor Award. Reading about the outstanding work and accomplishments of our colleagues is truly a highlight of our year.
How the Staff Award Review Process Works
After the call for nominations is issued, submissions are collected through a Smartsheet managed by Weinberg IT (WITS). WITS anonymizes the submissions before the board receives them to ensure impartiality. Each board member then independently reviews and scores the blinded submissions using our established rubrics. Once all scores are submitted, the top three entries in each category are unblinded and discussed during a board meeting, where the final winners are selected.
