Staff Groups

  • AHEAD@NU – Association for Higher Education Administrators’ Development (AHEAD@NU) helps higher education administrators (from program assistants to vice-presidents) establish and fulfill their academic, career, personal and social objectives and help them meet the challenges they may encounter as they pursue those goals.
  • ANUW – Association of Northwestern University Women is committed to encouraging and supporting all women in administration at Northwestern University interested in professional development.
  • APIDA – Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Staff Affinity Group (ASAG) is an affinity space open to any Northwestern staff member who self-identifies as part of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community – which is inclusive of, but not limited to, East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander diasporic identities, as well as multiracial and multi-ethnic APIDA identities.
  • GLUU – The Gay and Lesbian University Union is an organization for LGBT grad students, faculty, staff and alumni at Northwestern University.
  • GPAN – GPAN is a network for administrators who work specifically with graduate student programs on campus.
  • NBPN – The Northwestern Black Professionals Network strives to build community through shared experiences to foster open dialogue, leadership and mentorship that will improve the NU Black professional experience.
  • NURAP – The Northwestern University Research Administration Professionals brings together NU staff from across the university with the aim of improving institutional cohesiveness in research administration and fostering professional excellence among its members.
  • NUSAC – The Northwestern University Staff Advisory Council (NUSAC) serves as an advisory voice and change-agent for Northwestern staff in matters relating to community development, professional opportunities and workplace concerns.
  • Out Network – Out Network, a Queer Faculty & Staff Affinity Group, is a LGBTQIA+ community of faculty and staff at Northwestern University.
  • UDC – The University Diversity Council is responsible for addressing a wide range of diversity and inclusion-related issues and is comprised of faculty, students, staff, and alumni.
  • Unidos – Unidos: Latinx Professionals Coalition provides a space for staff of Latin American ancestry to develop opportunities for engagement as it relates to their professional experience at Northwestern University.
  • Women’s Center – The Northwestern University Women’s Center is dedicated to fostering a campus climate that promotes equity and enriches the personal, professional and academic lives of all members of the University community, particularly women students, staff and faculty. To this end, the Women’s Center also provides personal development programs, career counseling, interview coaching, and guidance on salary negotiation.

Educational Resources

  • Workplace Learning – The Learning & Organization Development team provides consulting, coaching, workshops, retreats and tools for individuals, groups and organizations as well as workshops and training opportunities. Review their calendar of workshops and events.
  • NU Educational Assistance and Tuition Plans – These plans provide financial assistance to full-time employees and retirees who have higher education expenses for themselves, their spouses, and dependent children.
  • NU School of Professional Studies – As a benefits eligible NU employee, take advantage of your employee tuition benefits through the part-time, evening, and weekend undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, professional development, graduate and advanced graduate programs available through the School of Professional Studies.
  • Higher Education Administration Certificate – Starting Summer 2016, The School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) will offer a Higher Education Administration certificate for professionals working in higher education who want to expand their skills, grow their network and pursue graduate-level course work. Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis.
  • LinkedIn Learning – Northwestern University and LinkedIn Learning have partnered to offer University students, faculty and staff unlimited, on-demand access to a full library of online courses at no additional cost.  Go online now for supplemental professional development and on-the-job assistance.

Work/Life Resources

  • Work/Life – The Office of Work/Life Resources is committed to helping NU employees find the information and resources needed to help balance the many aspects of life. Services include Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, NU Cares, Health and Wellness Programs, and many more.
  • Office of Equal Opportunity and Access – The Office of Equal Opportunity and Access ensures that University policies and procedures are in compliance with applicable federal, statewide, and local civil rights laws. This office provides resources and leadership to help ensure no one is discriminated against or harassed on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, parental status, marital status, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status , genetic information, or pregnancy, in matters of admissions, employment, housing, services, or in educational programs or activities which Northwestern operates.
  • Diversity and Inclusion – Northwestern is committed to identifying and implementing ways to create and support a diverse and inclusive campus community. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at NU provides initiatives, resources, and a community of campus partners (faculty, staff, and students) from different backgrounds and perspectives to engage in a mutual exchange of ideas and experiences.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. – The Northwestern University community has celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. King since 1987 with an expanded special commemoration throughout the week to inspire reflection on Dr. King’s life and legacy. In January 2013, Northwestern designated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an official University-recognized annual holiday for students, faculty and staff.
  • Women’s Center – The Northwestern University Women’s Center is dedicated to fostering a campus climate that promotes equity and enriches the personal, professional and academic lives of all members of the University community, particularly women students, staff and faculty.
  • Wildcat Card Discounts Show your WildCARD or Northwestern-issued ID Card and save with free delivery, free items, or discounts on a wide range of products and services.
  • Free Fitness Fridays – Northwestern campus departments are encouraged to participate in Northwestern Recreation Free Fitness Fridays throughout the year. This promotion is a great chance to enhance department morale, create team-building events and become more productive.

Worried About a Student?

  • NUHelp – designed to provide community members with access to university resources and services that serve NU students. You may share a concern for a student, identify safety and security resources, discover health and wellness programs, and find academic assistance specific to a college/school.
  • CAPS Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) serves as the primary mental health service at Northwestern University providing a set of core services, including clinical services, educational workshops, and consultation with faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Alcohol/Drugs –   Because of their regular contact with students, faculty and staff are often among the first to notice that a student is having personal problems. While you are not expected to take on the role of counselor, you may be well positioned to connect a student to available help.
